DBT Skills Program
What is DBT?
DBT, or Dialectical Behaviour Therapy is an evidence based behavioural therapy developed by Marsha Linehan in the 1980s. It has proven to be a very effective skills based therapy for people diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, emotional dysregulation, eating disorders, self-harm, impulsivity
and suicidality.
The DBT Skills
There are 4 modules in DBT: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness.
Skills in each of these each of these areas are taught and practiced together in individual therapy sessions.
We begin with mindfulness, as some mindfulness awareness is helpful when
developing the other skills.
Deciding on DBT
DBT is a longer term program. If you think this might be something that you are ready for, an initial appointment or two can help you to work out if it is for you.
